KTM 390 SMC R Spotted Testing In India, Launch Speculation Grows: Watch

On Indian roads the KTM 390 SMC R has been spotted again, there is a fresh anticipation of its possible launch in the country. Last year in India the motorcycle was first seen, and the latest spy images suggest that KTM is continuing its road tests and local development. Expectations have been raised among enthusiasts due these sightings, especially since the supermoto segment is still largely unexplored in the Indian market.

 

Engine is the major highlights form the recent test bike. Instead of KTM’s familiar 399cc motor that powers the RC, Duke, Adventure, and Enduro models, the bike seems to be using new 350cc engine. KTM’s point of changing the strategy is to tune in the motorcycles for Indian conditions while staying close to performance levels form the brand. The new engine is expected to produce slightly less than the 44.3 bhp output of the 399cc unit, which is around 40 bhp, but without a major compromise in performance.

What The Test Mule Reveals

390 Enduro R platform is on what the KTM 390 SMC R is based, which currently has price of Rs 3.54 lakh (ex-room). However, in terms of setup the SMC differs significantly. The SMC R uses 17 inch alloy wheels, instead of the Enduros’21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheels. Such setups are common for supermoto bikes and is especially designed to improve agility and handling, especially when ridding on roads.

 

Some Indian specific components like a saree guard and crash protection, indicating that the bike is undergoing homologation tests, as shown by the spy images. Staying to true to the supermoto style that blends elements of track ricing, motocross, and flat track riding, the overall design remains slim and aggressive.

 

Engine And Performance Expectations

 

 

Mechanically, SMC R uses many parts that are same and very much similar too 390 Enduro R, which includes liquid cooled engine, and single cylinder. While the global version of it is expected to be continued with the 399cc motor producing around 45 hp and 39 Nm of torque. 350cc version may be introduced by KTM specifically for India once developed completely.

 

TFT display with multiple ride modes, adjustable front forks, and a rear monoshock is expected to be featured in motorcycle. There is an estimation of dry weight in the mid 150 kg range, the SMC R is expected to remain light and agile, suitable for both sprinted riding and daily use.

India Launch Timeline And Market Position

 

According to the reports, KTM is expected to launch the 390 SMC R in India after completing the testings and homologation. Earlier the estimated launchtime was around late 2025 or early 2026. The estimated price range could be Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh (Ex-showrorm), if it gets launched. Thought, the recent changes in GST and taxes on bikes above 350cc could influence the KTM’s final decision.

 

It could be among the first true supermoto motorcycle in India, if it gets launched. It wud have no direct rivals and could open up a new performance focused segment for riders of India.
