Lower GST Advantage to Drive Pricing

India’s GST structure is one of the biggest reasons behind this move. 18 precent tax is attracted by motorcycle with engine capacity below 350cc, while those above fall under a higher slab of 40 percent. Triumph can very significantly reduce pricing, by bringing its new bike under the 350cc limit.

According to the reports, this could lead to a price drop of around Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 as compared to the existing 400cc models. By this the brand get the chance to compete more directly with rivals like the Royal Enfield 350 and Honda CB350 in the mid capacity segment.

The strategy of the brand is very simple: offer the customers with styling which is premium and performance which is excellent at a more competitive pricing. By this Triumph can also become a strong contender in a segment where pricing plays a major role in buying decisions.

Slight Power Drop, Same Riding Appeal

On the current 400cc platform is the new 350cc engine is expected to be based on, but with some mechanical adjustments. There are chances of a slight drop in power, likely around 4 to 5 hp. But the overall riding experience is expected to remain smooth and refined.

The brand focus is on making the bike suitable for everyday travelling and delivering strong low end performance. Signature built quality, engine refinement, and riding comfort is likely to be retained by Triumph, which have already been appreciated in its existing lineup.

The new 350cc range is expected to play a key role in strengthening Triumphs position in India and the test model has already been spotted. Other manufacturers can also get encouraged to explore similar stretches to benefit from the lower GST slab, if successful.
