The new Delhi EV Policy 2026 has been launched by the Delhi government, its aim is to introduce a major plan to increase the use of electric vehicles in the capital. Until March 31, 2030 this policy will remain in effect. The budget has been set up for Rs 7,000 crore. They are aiming for making EV more affordable while reducing the use of petrol and diesel vehicles.

Tax benefits, purchase incentives, scrapple bonuses and deadlines for shifting to electric vehicles in different categories has been included in this new policy.

Zero Road Tax And Purchase Benefits

Under this new policy by the government, those buying electric vehicle will be exempted to pay road tax or any registration charges. Though, these benefits are only for electric cars prices up to Rs 30 lakh (ex showroom)

The government is also aiming yo provide financial support through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Upto Rs 30,000 can be received by the buyers of electric two wheelers. And 1 lakh rupees for N 1 electric trucks weighting up to 3.5 tonnes.

Petrol Vehicle Registrations To End In Phases

Clear deadlines is also set up by the policy to reduce the number of new petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles on Delhi roads.

New registration of petrol, diesel, and CNG auto rickshaw and N1 commercial goods vehicles will not be allowed from January 1, 2027. All new two wheelers vehicles registered in Delhi mist be electric, bringing an end to new petrol powered motorcycles and scooters in the city from April 1, 2028.

Scrappage Rewards And Better EV Infrastructure

The government has also set aside more than Rs 1,500 crore for scrapping incentives, to encourage people ton replace old vehicles. Rs 1 lakh can be received by the owner for scrapping an old four wheeler, for a two wheeler Rs 10,000, for a three wheelers Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 for an eligible commercial truck when biking an EV.

The main focus of the policy is on commercial transport. The 10 years of exemption will be given to the first 1,000 heavy electric trucks purchased after policy comers into effect from Delhi’s ‘No Entry’ restrictions. School transport operators must gradually add more electric buses and vans to their fleets, while the government plans to install over 30,000 EV charging points across the city by 2030 to make charging easier for EV owners.
